Compliant taxpayers will from now on automatically receive their 2022 tax clearance certificate (ITF263) starting from 8 November 2021. This was recently announced by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) through Public Notice Number 111 of 2021.
According to the notice, compliant taxpayers will no longer need to apply for their tax clearance certificates. Instead the ITF263 will be emailed to them using the ZIMRA registered email address, provided that they are up to date with payments of taxes, submissions of tax returns and master data updates. Taxpayers who are registered for value added tax will also need to be fully fiscalised and interfaced with ZIMRA servers in addition to the above requirements.
The Public Notice goes on to explain that tax clearance certificates shall be for the year ending 31 December 2022 for large and medium sized clients while all other clients’ tax clearances will run for a period of twelve months from the date of issue.
It should be noted that ZIMRA pioneered the automatic issuance and emailing of tax clearance certificates way back in March 2021. Yours truly observed that this functionality worked like a charm provided the tax clearance is first applied for on the e-services platform. It has not worked without this precondition and hopefully the process will now be fully automated this time around.
